SEATTLE (97.1 The Ticket) -- Mariners second baseman Tim Lopes got a rude welcome to the Major Leagues in his first career start Thursday night.
Leading off the top of the fourth inning, Lopes took a 91-mph fastball from Drew VerHagen to the side of the head, appearing to hit his left ear flap. Despite being shaken up and checked out by trainers, Lopes stayed in the game.

— Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) July 26, 2019The scary moment came during his second career plate appearance. He had walked to lead off the 3rd inning. He came around to score both times. Lopes likely joins a short list of players to score multiple runs before recording an official at-bat.
The Mariners led the Tigers 7-1 at the end of the 4th inning.
