During 2020, do you swipe right more with a disinfectant wipe on a table than your with finger on Tinder?
According to the New York Post, dating in the pandemic may be challenging, but pandemic-themed pickup lines are now a popular Tinder trend in 2020. Turns out, it's true: Playas gotta play ... and even a pandemic can't get in the way.
“Let’s be like the coronavirus and catch each other.”
This pickup line was one of many of the coronavirus related sayings that were a popular trend among Tinder users during 2020, the famous dating app reported in its “Year in Swipe” review. Many users referenced a "quarantine and chill" approach to 2020 dating.
The review found many other creative bios from real users’ profiles. Some included “looking for a plus-one for my family Zoom calls” and “looking for someone to pump up my heart rate so my glasses fog with my mask on.”
However, the matchmaking platform shared that the number one trend supported the Black Lives Matter movement.
Masks were also a popular trend with users explaining that face coverings were a “dating essential.”
Regarding the 2020 election, mentions of “vote” doubled this year, with many users encouraging others to go out and cast their ballot.
The shrug emoji became the most-used of the year, and Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s track “WAP” became the app’s number one hit song.
As for staying safe during the global outbreak, Tinder rolled out a “video chat” feature on the platform.
With face-to-face meetings discouraged in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19, many singles have begun experimenting with virtual dates to find their soulmates.
The online matchmaker announced that it would begin testing a “Face to Face” video feature in select markets including Virgina, Illinois, Georgia, and Colorado.
Outside of the U.S., the video chat would be tested in Australia, France, South Korea, and Chile.
