(WWJ) — Dave Coulier, a beloved standup comedian and actor from Detroit, has announced he has cancer.

Coulier, known best for his role on the ‘90s sitcom “Full House,” announced his advanced cancer diagnosis Wednesday morning on NBC’s “Today Show.” Coulier said he has stage 3 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Born in Detroit and raised in St. Clair Shores, the 65-year-old Coulier said he was diagnosed in October after going to the doctor with what he thought was an upper respiratory infection. He began chemotherapy two weeks later and has undergone three surgeries.

Coulier told host “Today” Hoda Kotb his B-cell lymphoma is “very aggressive” and the diagnosis “happened very quickly.”

“The onset of this growing lymphoma in my groin area was very quick. I said, ‘something’s not right, I have a golf ball down here,’” he said. “So we biopsied it, we took it out… They said, ‘we need to get you into chemotherapy right away.’”

Coulier became known for his role as Uncle Joey on “Full House” in the ‘80s and ‘90s and reprised the role on the “Fuller House” reboot from 2016-2020.

He told “People” Magazine he is expecting his first grandchild soon and says he is “going to be strong” throughout his treatment.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma has a survival rate of around 60%, even for those in an advanced stage.
