(WWJ) Videos made the rounds on social media Sunday night, revealing a possible "fireball" visible in the sky over Michigan.

Several posts on Facebook showed a bright green object flashing -- and then fading out -- as it appears to head toward the ground.

Footage from this Ring doorbell camera, for instance, captures the object "falling" in the upper right corner.

According to the American Meteor Society (AMS), there were 145 reports of the object just before 9 p.m., with sightings as far away as Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Cincinnati, Ohio and Rochester, New York.

Mike Murray from the Delta College Planetarium in Bay City spoke with WWJ's Erin Vee about the phenomenon.

Murray said that "fireballs" are meteors that are generally brighter, or the same magnitude, as the planet Venus. Although the name implies a large size, usually meteors are no bigger than a rock or small boulder.

Murray recommended that anyone with footage share it with the AMS to help researchers better identify what the object is and its trajectory.
