(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The breakup between consumers and the McRib was not permanent, after all. McDonald’s has announced the popular processed pork sandwich will return in November, even though the item supposedly had its final “farewell tour” last year.
Surprise, surprise, surprise, says Izzy Kharasch, a restaurant adviser in Chicago.
“I always look forward to the McRib Farewell Tour, knowing that I’ll see it next year,” he told the Noon Business Hour on Wednesday.
Kidding aside, Kharasch says Chicago-based McDonald’s is wise to give customers of a certain age the thing they desire while generating a marketing buzz. The fast-food giant debuted the McRib in 1981, and over the years it resurfaced as a limited-time menu option.
“The older demographic that’s been straying from McDonald’s is definitely coming back for this,” he said.
Kharasch notes McDonald’s wins with the promotion because people will buy the McRib at full price.
