There have been many questionable things found in the Trinity River over the years. However, the latest finding may make it so no one wants to take a swim in the river ever again. A man recently caught a potentially record breaking alligator gar in the river that can only be described as “an absolute monster.”
Last weekend, Kentucky fisherman, Art Weston, teamed up with Texas fishing guide, Kirk Kirkland, who has been described as the “world’s best alligator gar guide,” to see what they could find in the Trinity River. The duo set out on their excursion near Huntsville and ended up catching an alligator gar that could end up being a world record. According to Fort Worth Star Telegram, the fish weighed 251 pounds, and was 90.5 inches long and 45.5 inches wide.
The previous record, also caught in the Trinity River, was only 191 pounds. Multiple photos of the fish were shared by Kirkland, who has more than 100 International Game Fish Association world records. Once this fish is confirmed by the International Game Fish Association, Kirkland will be able to add another record to the list.
