ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Police are looking for a suspect who allegedly hit an 11-year-old girl in the face in St. Louis.

The incident happened Saturday morning near Nebraska Avenue and Sidney Street in south St. Louis. The girl and her mother were about to take their puppy for a walk when their mother realized she left a clean-up bag inside the house. When the mother went inside, the puppy pulled the daughter toward the suspect who was walking by.

The 11-year-old girl asked the suspect if the dog could sniff him, then the man hit the child in the face, police say. The victim fell to the ground and "suffered from pain and redness to her face," police say.

Police are investigating and ask for anyone to contact a 3rd District Detective at 314-444-2500 if you recognize the suspect.
