Daughter’s blistering obituary for late mother pulled from Michigan newspaper

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Gayle Harvey Heckman accused her mother of physical, mental, emotional and verbal abuse in a lengthy obituary printed in southwest Michigan’s Three Rivers newspaper earlier this month.

After receiving complaints, the publisher eventually pulled the obituary — in which one man is named as an alleged sexual abuser — reports the Sturgis Journal.

Heckman, 54, told the paper that writing the obituary for Linda Lernal Stull was “cathartic” and that she “wasn’t trying to be hateful.”

The piece includes how Heckman got a protective order and learned through DNA testing who her biological father was. Heckman added that she and her family grieve for “who their mother and grandmother could have been.”

It ends with Heckman saying her family forgives Lernal and hope she finds peace — but that they understand “the world is a much better place without her.”
