The discourse online is another reminder of how social media can be, let’s say, not a great place at times.
Actress and modern-day bombshell Sydney Sweeney is trending again on social media.
The reason: Many are coming to the star’s defense after multiple accounts commented on new photos of her, essentially saying she isn’t anything special.
What appear to be paparazzi photos of the actress at a Florida home show Sweeney in a light purple bikini. Those photos promoted some people to comment, “Sydney Sweeney is mid.”
Those comments left many people stunned.
“How sad and lonely of a person do you have to be, to see someone who is as flawless as Sydney Sweeney and still try to find fault?” someone wrote on “X”.
“The birth rates are falling because there are men with anon accounts who are appalled to see what Sydney Sweeney, or any woman, looks like when they are not airbrushed, fasted and freshly pumped, posed with professional lighting and hair and make up,” wrote another.
It’s yet another example of the pressure young people feel on social media about their looks, especially young women.
A recent study from the American Psychological Association shows a reduction in social media use can improve a young person’s self-body image.
Sweeney gained widespread fame starring in the HBO show “Euphoria”, starred in the movie Immaculate this past year and just wrapped filming a movie about boxer Christy Martin.
