Photos and videos of a giant pothole turned pool have gone viral on social media as a group of New Orleans residents made the best of a bad situation.

The pothole, which could fit the front end of a KIA inside it, has been blocked off with yellow caution tape and construction cones. However, nothing is covering the hole itself, leaving it open to the public to be creative.

Onlookers like Dr. Brobson Lutz, who spoke with NOLA.com about what he happened to stumble upon in Louisiana, have been enthralled with the makeshift swimming pool.

Lutz shared that he was headed to a party when he ran into traffic near Marais Street. When he got through the traffic, he found that a group of locals had made a “swimming pool” big enough for a few people out of a flooded pothole on the road.

Inside the pothole, Lutz found three individuals, including a man and two women, all in swim attire that would be expected of someone lounging in a pool.

The group had set up wooden plans around the hole, making it into a makeshift lounging area similar to what would be seen at a resort.

Eventually, officers with the New Orleans Police Department arrived at the hole, warning about potentially being ticketed for creating a nuisance, NOLA.com reported.

In response, the group suggested the officers ticket whoever was responsible for the unrepaired pothole that they had transformed into their own oasis.

However, according to social media posts from Monday, it appears that the pool has been closed, with the hole being covered inside the cones.

Funny enough, this isn’t the first time a New Orleans pothole has been used as a pool, as something similar happened in the spring of 2022.
