For many Yellowstone viewers, the gritty suspense that unfolds throughout the series is just the right-sized slice of pie to satisfy their survival-through-hardship hunger. For others, it’s just too darn dramatic. Enter modern cowboy, Sam Elliott.
Listen as Sam Elliott talks with Marc Maron about playing tough guys, being tough on himself, and more -- plus browse a huge list of podcasts on Audacy.

Despite him starring in the beloved series' prequel, 1883, Elliott recently revealed to comedian and podcaster Marc Maron that he's actually not that fond of the original -- no sir, not one bit.
"I’m not a 'Yellowstone' fan. I don’t watch 'Yellowstone,'" he admits. "I love Costner. There’s a lot of good people on the cast, a few of them I’ve worked with before -- nothing against any of them -- but it’s just too much like f***ing 'Dallas' or something for me." Dallas, of course, was the classic American soap opera that revolved around a feuding Texas family which ran for 14 seasons from 1978 to 1991.
This isn't the first time Sam, who plays the role of Shea Brennan in screenwriter and director Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone origin story, has voiced his displeasure with the original series. Elliot revealed in a previous talk that he felt the show "tainted" the story and that he "can't stand" the comparisons between the two.
Yeesh... wonder what he'll think of all the big city chiselers set to continue the tale of the Dutton's on the upcoming prequel 1932, which will explore westward expansion through the eyes of a new generation of family members as they venture through the eras of Prohibition and the Great Depression.
