NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — HBO’s hit show “The Sopranos” may soon be getting a prequel series, following the release earlier this month of “The Many Saints of Newark.”
In an interview with Deadline, “Sopranos” creator David Chase said he was working on another feature film to expand the show’s universe.
Now, the entertainment news organization has reported the project may end up as a TV series for HBO Max.
Ann Sarnoff, CEO of studios and networks at WarnerMedia, told Deadline that they are only “talking” about a prequel series currently and no plans have been made.
Chase previously told Deadline that if he would return to “The Sopranos” universe, any story he produced would take place after “Newark,” which is set in the late 1960s, and before the main series, which began in the late 1990s.
Sarnoff told Deadline that while “The Many Saints of Newark” did not perform as well at the box office as WarnerMedia had hoped, she did note that the film had a positive effect on the show.
