College student found driving 106 mph while watching Zoom class

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A college student from Chicago could face severe penalties after a traffic stop.

An Illinois State Police District 21 Trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding Monday around 8:40 a.m. on I- 57 near milepost 280.

District 21 state police posted a picture on Facebook showing the speed on the radar readout: 106 miles per hour.

The post reads "It's a really bad decision to drive this fast anytime!!! It's even a worse idea to do it while watching your college class on Zoom!!!!!"

It happened out in a rural area of Iroquois County. The student was driving an Acura.

Going 35 miles per hour over the limit or more is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.

The driver, Sienna Pieruccini, 21, of Chicago, was cited for speeding 35+ MPH over limit and operation of a motor vehicle while using an electronic communication device. Pieruccini was released on a recognizance bond.
