Any time it rains, it’s a guarantee someone will be standing outside their home watching the rainfall with amazement. However, for some in Texas they saw a lot more than water falling from the sky during a recent storm. People in Texarkana, Texas have reported seeing fish raining from the sky during a recent storm, and many are wondering how this happened.

Earlier this week, a rain storm blew through Texarkana, Texas and while the storm brought plenty of rain and wind, most thought nothing was out of the ordinary. That is, until people started spotting fish nowhere near water after the storm. “There was a loud crack of thunder and when we opened up the bay door, I looked outside and it was raining real hard and a fish hit the ground, and then I said, ‘It’s raining fish!’ Brad was like, ‘No it’s not,’ and I’m like, ‘No, it really is!’ and fish were droppin’ here and everywhere,” said James Audirsch who witnessed the fish rain.

According to KXAN, this rare occurrence happens when a water spout moving over water sucks up small creatures such as fish and frogs, carrying them along until they lose steam before dropping their stunned passengers. It can also be caused by tornadoes and strong winds. Hopefully the next storm doesn’t bring another surprise.
