When a home goes up for sale, the seller usually makes sure to include anything interesting about the home that could attract potential buyers. Usually that is something strange like a hidden room or odd artwork, but for a seller in Connecticut; they are hoping their home’s impressive history is enough to help get them to their asking price. The home currently on the market for $15.9 million claims to be the home where the Oreo was invented.
Once owned by the chairman and president of Nabisco, Adolphus W. Green, the Connecticut home includes a pool, a renovated modern kitchen, seven bedrooms and plenty of space to come up with cookie ideas. The listing even claims the home resembles an Oreo cookie. While there is no confirmation if the Oreo was actually invented there, it is a claim the home has held for years.
According to The Takeout, Green purchased the home in 1905 and the first Oreo was sold in 1912 after being produced by bakeries at the Chelsea Market in New York City. While the Oreo may have been invented in the home, the Victorian mansion has many other attributes to attract buyers. Maybe the next great cookie will be invented by the next homeowner.
