According to new research, the most popular search term in the United States is no longer recent hot topics like Donald Trump or guns, but the cryptocurrency Bitcoin.
The data is based on Ahrefs search volume, which shows more people in the U.S. are searching to learn about Bitcoin than any other term.
Ahrefs research found that Bitcoin’s search volume hit 1.9 million in the United States and 12 million globally. Trump was the next closest at 1.5 million.
More people are searching for information on Bitcoin during a time when cryptocurrency is becoming more popular and also more controversial following the collapse of the digital currency exchange FTX.
Among the states to search for Bitcoin the most was Nevada, which has a score of 100 according to Google Trends. Some say this is unsurprising, being that the state hosts several high-tech companies.
The findings did have some surprises, as Bitcoin surpassed several other popular search terms in the country. Terms listed in the top 10 most searched in the U.S. were Donald Trump, breaking news, Elvis Presley, Disney World, and Spiderman.
Among other surprising terms searched were Mr. Beast, student loans, Santa Clause, donuts, Chuck Norris, and the White House.
