Mike Valenti has an opinion on the latest news regarding Jim Harbaugh's contract and he's not afraid to share it.
Valenti reacted, shall we say -- strongly -- to the news that Harbaugh is reportedly closing in on another deal that will pay him $4 million a year in base salary. That's half of his current $8 million salary.
See his rant above.
"There's no reason for me to be nice about this," Valenti said. "I have never in my life seen this type of contract in college football."
Valenti waxed poetic at time, painting an image where Harbaugh basically was the guy alone at the bar who still ends up going home with someone. Neither likes the other, but what the heck, it's closing time. "If I'm a Michigan fan, I'm looking at this in utter disbelief," he said. Basically, Harbaugh had nowhere to go and Michigan had no one they could get ... so there they are locked together -- at least in this analogy.
What did the negotiation start with, Valenti asked? "A dollar and a kick in the nuts," he mused.
If your employer cuts your pay in half it's probably time to move on, he said. Meanwhile, Harbaugh has a 49-22 record at his alma mater and a 34-16 record in Big Ten play. Angry fans are quick to point out, his teams have not once beaten Ohio State and have yet to qualify for a Big Ten Championship Game or the College Football playoff.
"Is this a sign that Michigan has accepted their fate in today's world that they are simply not a big boy?" Valenti said. "I am star-struck by this."
