Three boaters are back on land and are safe after being rescued by the United States Coast Guard just off the Louisiana coast.
That rescue happened on Sunday about 25 miles offshore from Empire.
According to Coast Guard officials, the three boaters went into the water after their 24-foot vessel sank. They were reported overdue to the Coast Guard by a concerned family member.
"A Coast Guard Station Venice 45-foot Response-Boat Medium boatcrew arrived on scene and witnessed two of the boaters fending off sharks, along with injuries to both boater's hands," according to a Coast Guard news release. "The two boaters were pulled from the water by the boatcrew before additional injuries could occur."
Video released by the Coast Guard shows the rescue as it happened.
The Coast Guard has not released any other details about the boaters who were rescued.
It's the third rescue that the Coast Guard has made off the South Louisiana coast in the last five days. On Saturday, Coast Guard officials conducted a MEDEVAC from a motor boat about 20 nautical miles south of Venice.
On Friday, a Coast Guard crew performed a MEDEVAC on a cruise ship about 150 nautical miles southeast of New Orleans.
The patients in both cases were transferred to University Medical Center in New Orleans.
