Wendy’s is responding to the recent news that McDonald’s will offer a $5 meal to help customers battle inflation, announcing this week it will offer a $3 breakfast value meal to help lure customers.
In its new value breakfast offering, Wendy’s shared that customers will be able to choose between a bacon, egg, and cheese English muffin or a sausage, egg, and cheese English muffin to go with a side of small seasoned potatoes.
The new meal was introduced on Monday, a week after McDonald’s announced that it would look to bring customers back by offering them some slack on the price of a summer meal.
Among other announcements, Wendy’s also said it was rolling out a new sausage breakfast burrito at participating locations. Inside the burrito is a grilled sausage patty, eggs, American cheese, potatoes, and cheese sauce.
While the new meal from Wendy’s was launched on Monday, McDonald’s will not begin selling its value meal in the U.S. until later in June. It will be available for only four weeks.
The two fast-food chains are not the only ones looking to entice consumers who are otherwise focused on saving money wherever they can.
Starbucks has begun offering users of its app 50% off of handcrafted drinks they buy on Fridays in May from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at participating locations after seeing a decline in foot traffic last quarter.
In the real world, Target announced that it would reduce the prices of more than 1,500 popular items beginning immediately, with plans to cut prices for more than 5,000 brand-name and house items.
Other retailers, like Aldi and Ikea, have also slashed prices in recent months, while others have looked to be more creative.
Walmart also recently launched a new food brand aimed at attracting younger consumers looking for deals that don’t have any ties to current brands. The new brand “Bettergoods” is being rolled out nationwide this year with 300 new products. Walmart shared that items will range in price from $2 to $15, with most of them coming in around $5.
Wendy’s has not shared how long its breakfast meal deal will be available, but did note that it is a limited offering.
