After only three years with the team that drafted him, two of which were seasons in which he produced over 1,000 yards rushing, Leonard Fournette has been waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After an offseason filled with buzz surrounding Fournette, it still comes as a relative surprise. Fournette's name had been floated in trade talks for a while -- and a source told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that the former LSU star was a "pain in the ass" to work with -- starting back in the early spring.
However, these rumors appeared to be shot dead after Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said that they were looking to "go forward with Leonard (Fournette) on the team" on the "Pro Football Talk" podcast (h/t Blake Schuster of Bleacher Report).
So much for that. Fournette's road in Jacksonville comes to an end after just three years in which he rushed 666 times for 2,631 yards and 17 touchdowns, adding an additional 1,0009 yards through the air. He's topped 1,000 yards twice, but has, all things considered, been a disappointment, with an underwhelming average of 4.0 yards per carry, no Pro Bowl appearances, little team success and some nagging injury issues.
