Central Catholic football star and Pitt recruit Elliot Donald will not play football his senior year.

According to the Tribune Review, the nephew of Los Angeles Rams star and Pitt alum Arron Donald says he isn’t worried about being infected with COVID-19 but is concerned for his family and doesn’t want to spread it to his older relatives.

Donald is close to his grandfather and other members of his family and doesn’t believe the risk is worth it.

According to Central Catholic coach Terry Totten, Donald is the only Vikings player to opt out of the season.

The 6-foot, 255-pound defensive tackle committed to Pitt in July.

The four-star recruit picked Pitt over LSU, Penn State, Notre Dame and Ohio State and other schools.

Donald will take classes online in the fall and will train for the entire year to prepare for Pitt.

The Trib reports that Donald said was told he couldn’t take virtual classes and play football. It’s unknown if that is the school’s policy.

While Donald says he misses playing football, he adds he didn’t “really had a good experience (at Central Catholic).”

Central Catholic, the defending WPIAL Class 6A champions, play a scrimmage against Penn Hills on Friday and take on Canon-McMillan in the season opener on September 11.
