The Yankees lost to the lowly White Sox on Monday night to drop 5.5 games back of the final playoff spot and further diminish their shot of a postseason berth.

Frustration boiled over in the form of Aaron Boone exploding on home plate umpire Laz Diaz following a strike three call on Anthony Volpe, leading to Boone drawing a line in the dirt next to home plate to show where Diaz had been calling strikes to righties all night, then mocked Diaz’s punchout gesture.

Not surprisingly, Boone was tossed, adding to his league-leading total.

Diaz appeared to make the correct call on Volpe, but Boone’s outburst was a build-up of frustration from several other questionable strike calls in what seemed to be a wider zone, specifically for righties.

Still, Boone’s tirade wasn’t enough to awaken a dead Yankee offense, losing 5-1 to a team that has been sinking since the early part of the season.
