WildThings announcer gets interrupted talking about late uncle with perfectly-timed home run

An emotional, amazing moment in Washington on Saturday

We got another reason why sports are the best on Saturday night. An incredibly-time, touching moment occurred during the Washington Wild Things game against the Tri-City ValleyCats.

WildThings play-by-play man Kyle Dawson was telling fans about the sudden loss of his Uncle Charlie and how he juggled his duties with Washington while making sure he was also there for his family when outfielder Grant Heyman came to the plate with the WildThings down 2-1.

While telling the story, Dawson said, "I'm just gonna give you the visuals and hope we don't get Nick Castellanos'd and somebody hits a home run to tie the game right now."

Just as he just said that, Heyman launched a home run over the right field fence with Dawson simply responding, "of course."

"That's gonna put a wrench in my whole thing, but I love it, I needed this," said Dawson. "I told the family today when I walked out, I need them to win tonight, so it's kind of a perfect time."

The WildThings would go on to win 6-2 thanks to a four-run eight inning.

After the game, Dawson thanked his Uncle Charlie for the home run.

Dawson tells The Fan, ""The moment was funny because I had a feeling something was going to happen if it spilled into action to the point I sent a text to some of my buddies a few days before I intended on saying something about it and said "watch me get Castellanos'd when I try and do this.' That really helped break up an emotional few minutes and felt like a sign from above. My family was tuned in and I know it let them laugh a bit, and finding some humor in it made for a perfect moment. If that's a moment that starts to help the family and me heal a bit, great, because we certainly could use it."
