The Stanley Cup trophy can be awfully heavy, which is why it is important to be careful with it on the ice. The Colorado Avalanche found this out the hard way after winning the franchise’s third Stanley Cup Final on Sunday night.

Not long after their 2-1 victory in Game 6 over the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Avalanche were already incurring damage to the famed trophy before they even hit the booze in the locker room.

As the team wrapped up its on-ice celebration with a team photo, winger Nicolas Aube-Kubel was making his way with the trophy to sit front and center with it when he slipped and banged the bottom trophy against the ice to break his fall.

A close-up view of the fall showed a pretty clear dent in the trophy.

Phil Pritchard, the keeper of the cup, said on the NHL’s official social media page that it will be fixed sometime in the future.
