Baker Mayfield sounds off on NFL's new protocols: 'Make up your damn mind'

The Cleveland Browns are reeling due to COVID and tensions are beginning to run high.

Shortly after news broke that Case Keenum also test positive for COVID-19, leaving the Browns possibly with third-stringer Nick Mullens, Baker Mayfield took to Twitter to lay into the NFL, which had announced adjustments to its COVID protocols earlier in the day.

"Make up your damn mind on protocols," Mayfield wrote. "Showing up and making only 3 teams test?!? All so you can keep the game as scheduled to make money."

Mayfield was referring to the decision that daily testing of all players, regardless of vaccination status, would only apply to teams already dealing with COVID outbreaks. That would mean the Browns, Rams and Washington Football Team.

The NFLPA, led by president and Browns center JC Tretter, has argued that all players should be subject to daily testing since the start of the season, but they have not appeared to win that battle.

According to ProFootballTalk, teams in the intensive protocols attempted to not test the asymptomatic, vaccinated players on Thursday but the NFLPA got involved and the teams and league backed down.

Mayfield was not done, either, and advocated for Saturday's game against the Raiders to be delayed, which the NFLPA is "pushing aggressively," according to ProFootballTalk, which added some in the union even want the season shut down for a week.

Mayfield was not the only Browns player upset, either. Safety John Johnson III also chimed in:

The NFL did relax rules for vaccinated players who are asymptomatic in an attempt to get them to return sooner, but with the Browns scheduled for Saturday, there does not seem any reason to think they can push the game back to Sunday in an attempt to get as many players back as possible for the game.
