Brock Purdy continues to defy the odds. The final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has now orchestrated comebacks in two straight weeks to send the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl.

NFL Insider Brian Baldinger of the Audacy original podcast “The Best Football Show” had high praise for Purdy after his impressive performance in the NFC Championship Game.

“Brock Purdy was sensational. In the fourth quarter he had three scrambles for 52 yards in addition to one great throw after another,” Baldinger said (12:20 in player above). “Anybody that still doubts that Brock Purdy belongs in the Super Bowl, that’s a championship-caliber quarterback, that can lead his team to his Super Bowl and win a Super Bowl.

“If anybody still doubts Brock Purdy they’re just not watching or they just have a predestined disposition about somebody that was nicknamed’ Mr. Irrelevant’ at one time.”

The public perception of Purdy has gone back and forth since he took over late last season. He’s always been a good story, but he’s proving that he’s just as good of a quarterback.

“It doesn’t matter where you get drafted,” Baldinger continued. “You have to get over where he was drafted, where he came from, what he looks like, his demeanor. The guy is a cold-blooded assassin is what he is.”

Not only was Purdy able to manage the game from a passing perspective, but he took off for 48 yards on five carries in the win.

“His scrambles (Sunday), he channeled Steve Young,” Baldinger said. “That’s what Steve Young did to go win a Super Bowl. That’s how he played the game. He pulled the ball down and ran, and nobody ever doubted Steve Young’s ability ever at any level. So hat’s off to Brock Purdy.”

Purdy will now have a chance to add a Super Bowl to his resume with just 25 regular-season games (21 starts) in his career.
