After completing his improbable journey back to the NFL on Sunday, Alex Smith received congratulatory praise from one of the highest dignitaries in the land.
Former President Barack Obama blasted a congratulatory message for his "friend" out to his 123 million Twitter followers on Monday, commending Smith for persevering through a 693-day recovery process to return to the football field, after nearly losing his leg and life from a gruesome Nov. 2018 leg injury.
"And congratulations to my friend Alex Smith, for fighting back from a life-threatening injury to start at quarterback again for the Washington Football Team," Obama wrote. "It's a testament to his strength, determination and the love and support of his family."
