Battery case for Saints running back Alvin Kamara delayed again

Alvin Kamara was busy at practice on Monday as his latest court date was held in Las Vegas, but the only update that came out of it is more waiting.

Lawyers for the four men facing charges in the case, none of whom were present in court, requested an additional 60-day delay, according to a report from 8NewsNow.

The delay is the latest in the case that stems from a fight that broke out in a Las Vegas nightclub involving Kamara prior to the Pro Bowl. Kamara and the others are accused of beating a man who got into an altercation with Kamara's group outside of an elevator, which resulted in severe bodily harm.

Many unknowns remain in the legal process, but from a strictly football perspective the delay is significant. The NFL typically will not dole out discipline relative to the player conduct policy until the legal process has concluded. A two-month delay means the case will next be in court sometime in early August, which would be around the Week 4 mark. It's unclear how long the process of the case itself would play out, but it's feasible that it is extended beyond the season.

The case and discipline will come eventually, but the odds now seem greater than ever that the 2022 season might be safe from any looming suspension as far as Kamara is concerned. We'll know more in October.

Kamara has been active each day of training camp thus far, though he has yet to speak with the media.
