(670 The Score) The Blackhawks placed 19-year NHL veteran Corey Perry on unconditional waivers with the intention to terminate his contract due to a workplace incident that violated the organization's standards, general manager Kyle Davidson told reporters Tuesday afternoon.
Vehemently pushing back against salacious rumors that spread on social media, Davidson stressed the matter had nothing to do with other players or players’ families. Davidson called the rumors “disgusting."
“It’s been a tough couple days,” Davidson told reporters.
Perry had been away from the Blackhawks since last Wednesday as the organization conducted an investigation, and the team had been largely silent about his mysterious absence before releasing a couple details in a statement Tuesday. Davidson declined to share specifics of what transpired that led Perry to be waived.
“After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable and in violation of both the terms of his standard player’s contract and the Blackhawks’ internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments,” the team said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon, according to the Sun-Times.
Perry, 38, signed a one-year, $4-million deal with the Blackhawks in late June after the team acquired him in a trade with the Lightning. Perry had nine points (four goals, five assists) in 16 games for the Blackhawks this season. Perry won the 2011 MVP award while playing for the Ducks and has 892 career points.
