Diamondbacks broadcaster Bob Brenly has apologized publicly on Twitter, and reached out to Marcus Stroman, and agreed to attend sensitivity training after an “attempt at humor” gone wrong during Tuesday night’s Diamondbacks-Mets broadcast.
During the game, as the camera showed a shot of Stroman capless and wearing only a do-rag, said it was ‘just like the one Tom Seaver used to wear.’
Stroman took exception to the remark, lashing out on Twitter on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, and prior to Wednesday afternoon’s series finale, Mets manager Luis Rojas spoke about the situation, saying that “if it was meant to be a joke, I don’t know what was supposed to be funny.”
Later, about an hour before game time, Brenly made the following statement through the Diamondbacks:
Bally Sports Arizona, Brenly’s employer as the team’s broadcast home, has not commented as of yet.
