CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns have agreed to acquire defensive end Chase Winovich from the Patriots for linebacker Mack Wilson, giving both players a new start.
Shortly after the trade agreement between the teams was reported Winovich thanked the Patriots on Twitter and expressed excitement for joining the Browns.
Both players were selected in the 2019 NFL Draft – Winovich by the Patriots in the third round and Wilson by the Browns in the fifth round.
Winovich started just nine of the 45 games he appeared in for the Patriots where he totaled 11 sacks, 23 QB hits, 56 tackles – 10 for loss, tow pass breakup and an interception.
Wilson, who started 14 games as a rookie, started 14 the last two seasons combined. Last year he played behind Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, drafted by the Browns in the second round in 2021.
In 43 games Wilson amassed a sack, a pair of QB hits, 163 tackles – five for loss, nine pass breakups, a forced fumble and interception.
Trades can not be completed until the new league year begins Wednesday at 4 p.m. eastern.
The Browns agreed to acquire receiver Amari Cooper from Dallas for a fifth round pick and swap of six round selections on Saturday and came to terms Monday on a one-year contract worth a reported $5 million with Jaguars free agent defensive tackle Taven Bryan.
