There was a scary moment at Sunday’s GEICO 500 NASCAR race at Talladega when Joey Logano’s car went airborne and flipped backward, causing a five-vehicle wreck.
Thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt and somehow only Logano was unable to continue racing.
Among those who were hit by Logano’s car was Bubba Wallace, who escaped with minimal damage but the view of the wreck from Wallace’s car was scary and the driver had the ultimate reaction to it:
“I’m telling you, my underwear is worse than the car right now,” he said.
Logano, who was evaluated on the infield care center, was released with no injuries and reflected that he was lucky to be alive, calling back to Ryan Newman’s fiery crash at the Daytona 500 last year.
“I don’t know exactly what to think. It’s a product of this racing,” he said. “And on one hand, I’m so proud to drive a Cup car that is safe, that I can go through a crash like that and get out and speak about it. On one hand, I’m mad about being in the crash.
“The other thing, I’m just happy I’m alive. On another hand, I think when we are going to stop? Because this is dangerous doing what we’re doing. I got a roll bar in my head. That is not OK. I’m one hit away from the same situation Ryan Newman went through … it’s a product of racing, but we have to fix it, though.”
