Cardinals fans give Paul Skenes a standing ovation after stellar outing

Say what you will about the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans, but what happened at Busch Stadium on Tuesday night after Bucs rookie sensation Paul Skenes as he walked off the field was true class.

Skenes had one out in the seventh inning when he was pulled during a pitcher’s duel against Cardinals’ Miles Mikolas.

Fans, including many Cardinal supporters, gave Skenes a standing ovation on the road, something you don’t see often.

One Cards fan was even seen tipping his cap.

“I’ll be honest, I didn’t really notice it in the moment, I got a text about it and, like looking back I realized what happened so it was cool, they’re cool fans,” Skenes said on SportsNet Pittsburgh after his outing.

Skenes pitched 6.1 innings, giving up five hits, zero runs and struck out eight.

The Cardinals and Pirates may be rivals and St. Louis fans can be a bit annoying, but you have to give it up to them on this one.

Cardinals fans stood up, realizing they’re watching the future of baseball.

The Pirates would hold on to win a close 2-1 game.
