(670 The Score) As Duke and North Carolina are set to meet in the Final Four on Saturday in the highest-stakes matchup in their storied rivalry, Tar Heels and Bulls legend Michael Jordan doesn’t appear to be confident in his alma mater’s chances.
Jordan believes Duke will win the game, Blackhawks great Chris Chelios told the Mully & Haugh Show on 670 The Score on Wednesday morning. Chelios and Jordan discussed the topic while having dinner Tuesday evening, Chelios said.
“I wasn’t going to name drop him, but because you brought up his name, I’m with MJ now – like not right with him, but we had dinner last night,” Chelios said while golfing with hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. “We talked about the basketball. Obviously, he’s pulling for North Carolina, but he thinks Duke is going to beat them. That’s his feeling.”
Saturday will mark the first time Duke and North Carolina have met in the NCAA Tournament, and the hype and stakes are heightened by legendary Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski’s impending retirement. Krzyzewski and Duke could beat their bitter rival to set up a storybook ending or they could be defeated in the most deflating fashion one could imagine in sports.
The Blue Devils and Tar Heels have split a pair of matchups this season. Duke won 87-67 at North Carolina on Feb. 5. North Carolina then returned the favor with a 94-81 victory at Duke on March 5, which marked Krzyzewski’s final home game as coach.
Duke is a four-point favorite, according to most sportsbooks.
