Could Shohei Ohtani break Aaron Judge's AL home run record?

Through the Angels’ first 95 games of the season, Shohei Ohtani now has 35 home runs after going deep against the Yankees on Monday night.

Through the Yankees’ first 95 games of 2022, Aaron Judge had 36 home runs, en route to his historic 2022 campaign.

Which begs the question from Sal and Tiki: could Ohtani break Judge’s American League home run record, which he hasn’t even held for a year?

“He is just so consistently mashing home runs,” Tiki said. “It’s like every other day, he’s hitting home runs.”

Sal believes the only thing that may stop Ohtani is if the Angels trade him before the deadline, as the new scenery and added pressure could have an impact. But Tiki believes if he became teammates with Judge, it would actually help his chances.

“Unless it’s the Yankees,” Tiki said. “Because of that short porch in right field.”

Ohtani could very well make a push for 62, as he is currently on pace for 60, which would be mind-blowing to Sal after Judge just broke Maris’ record last year.

“Can you imagine a record that stood since 1961 be broken in consecutive years?” Sal said.
