The Dallas Cowboys are bringing in a new wide receiver. But it's not the one you were expecting.
The Cowboys have agreed to a one-year deal with free-agent receiver T.Y. Hilton, the announced on Monday.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news
Hilton, a 10-year veteran, gives the Cowboys the weapon they were seeking when they spent weeks courting free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who left the team's headquarters at The Star last Tuesday without a deal.
According to CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson, Hilton's addition doesn't eliminate the Cowboys' interest in Beckham Jr., but Dallas elected to move forward with Hilton because he can play "right now."
Hilton, 33, spent the first ten seasons of his career with the Colts, but hasn't played this season after the Colts elected not to offer him a new contract after his previous one expired after the 2021 season.
Hilton, a four-time Pro Bowler, has been an excellent receiver when healthy. He's had five 1,000-yard seasons including an NFL-best 1,148 yards in 2016 for the Colts. But he's missed 16 games over the last four seasons due to various injuries. His last 1,000-yard season came in 2018 when he had 1,270 yards receiving.
In 10 games in 2021, Hilton had 23 catches for 331 yards.
