For the Lions, the arrival of Jahmyr Gibbs could spell the departure of D'Andre Swift.

Gibbs, drafted 12th overall Thursday night, is a younger, fresher version of Swift, a second-round pick of the prior regime in 2020. With Swift carrying a long history of injuries into his contract season, the current regime sounds inclined to move on.

Asked about Swift's future with the team after the addition of Gibbs, GM Brad Holmes said, "Yeah, I mean, D’Andre is still on our roster. He’s still a part of our team, still under contract with us. He’s a dynamic football player. So, it hasn’t really changed the math there, yet. But it is early."

The Lions also signed running back David Montgomery to a three-year deal this offseason. With Gibbs poised to be the pass-catching, home-run threat, Swift, who's missed 10 games to injuries over three seasons in Detroit, looks like the odd man out in the backfield.

Holmes went on to say that the Lions "put Jahmyr in his own separate box" and it "didn’t really have any bearing on D’Andre," but it sure sounds like Swift is a trade candidate in the coming days. Detroit was reportedly already getting calls on him leading up to the draft.

If he can net the Lions a Day 2 or early Day 3 pick, his time in Detroit is likely over.
