Another coach is coming with Duce Staley from the Eagles to the Lions.
This time it's Dave Fipp, hired on Tuesday by Dan Campbell for the role of special teams coordinator in Detroit. Fipp, who overlapped with Campbell on the Dolphins' coaching staff from 2011-12, was special teams coordinator for Philadelphia for the last eight seasons.
The Lions had one of the strongest special teams units in the NFL this season under first-year coordinator Brayden Coombs, but Coombs was fired by former interim head coach Darrell Bevell for calling a rogue fake punt in a Week 15 loss to the Titans.
Fipp will inherit a unit in Detroit that features a Pro Bowl punter in Jack Fox, plus a former All-Pro return man in Jamal Agnew and a former Pro Bowl kicker in Matt Prater. The latter two are set to be free agents.
Staley, who had been with the Eagles since 2011, was hired by the Lions on Monday as assistant head coach and running backs coach as Philadelphia overhauls its staff under new head coach Nick Sirianni.
