As much as Detroit Lions fans are impressed with Amon-Ra St. Brown, so is he with them. St. Brown got to interact with a bunch of the team's biggest supporters at last month's NFL Draft, where he announced the Lions' third-round pick of Hendon Hooker, and couldn't believe their level of energy all weekend long. He said they're not even human.
"I’m telling you, these fans are sick. Won’t stop," St. Brown said this week on the 33rd Team podcast he co-hosts with his brother and Bears receiver Equanimeous St. Brown. "I was telling someone, I don’t know how they do it. Day 1, they’re there. Day 2, they’re there. Day 3, they’re there. I’m like, holy sh*t. I would be fuc*ing passed out."
Meanwhile, the Bears fans at the draft looked passed out, according to St. Brown. He took a video of himself giving a thumbs down to their sleepy fan section and then talked a little smack about it to his brother.
"Did you see my video to the Bears fans? Did you see how deflated they looked? They looked deflated, like you guys did the whole season," St. Brown said. "I’m like, I gotta get a video. I was literally walking past and I was like, no way, let me walk back and record this. You should have seen, it was the worst fan base ever. Like this (looking down) on their phones, just tired. You see the Lions section, just turnt, lit. ... Let me tell you this, they were standing up and you guys were sitting down. That tells me everything."
St. Brown also had some trash talk for his brother's former team, the Packers. Green Bay could have drafted St. Brown in 2021, when Brad Holmes and the Lions snagged him in the fourth round, but took receiver Amari Rodgers in the third round instead.
"Why didn’t the Packers pick me?" he said. "You guys picked Amari Rodgers over me. That’s my dog, don’t get it twisted, but still."
As for the Lions' top picks this year, St. Brown said he was surprised by the first-round selections of Jahmyr Gibbs and Jack Campbell, but has all the trust in the world in Holmes.
"I’m like, damn, we got a linebacker and a running back that early in the draft? A lot of the fans, I talked to them, they didn’t except that. But I trust what Brad Holmes and the guys do. They drafted me, so I know they know talent. So I’m not too worried about when they got picked."
