A year to the day after they released David Blough, the Lions are bringing him back.

Detroit is signing its former backup quarterback to its practice squad, per NFL Network. Blough, who spent last season with the Vikings and Cardinals, spent the first three seasons of his career with the Lions. He played in seven games over that stretch, including five starts in 2019 in place of an injured Matthew Stafford.

Blough, 28, won't be expected to play this year for Detroit. Teddy Bridgewater is the clear backup to Jared Goff. But after Nate Sudfeld recently went down for the season with a torn ACL, Blough will give the Lions a practice squad quarterback with some NFL experience.

He made two starts last year for the Cardinals, who had plucked him off the Vikings practice squad in December, completing 38 of 58 passes for 405 yards, two touchdowns and two picks.

The Lions also added some insurance at wide receiver on Thursday, signing Daurice Fountain to their practice squad after he had been cut by the Bears, per Jordan Shultz. A fifth-round pick of the Colts in 2020 who also played for the Chiefs in 2021, Fountain was Chicago's leading receiver in the preseason this year with seven catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.

The Lions also have receivers Dylan Drummond and Maurice Alexander on their practice squad. With Jameson Williams suspended until Week 7, injuries could quickly create opportunities at that position.
