The Lions continue to reassemble their defense from last season. Veteran defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad is back with the team on a one-year deal, per Adam Schefter.
Muhammad joined the Lions in October amid several injuries to their front seven, including starting defensive ends Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport. He played in nine of the team's final 11 games, registering three sacks and 24 quarterback pressures, per Pro Football Focus.
The Lions will look to Muhammad, who turns 30 this month, to play a similar depth/rotational role this year, with Hutchinson returning from a fractured leg and Davenport returning on a one-year contract himself after suffering a torn triceps.
Detroit has also re-signed starting defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike, who had 1.5 sacks and 45 pressures in 16 games last season and could be poised for a long-awaited breakthrough.
Elsewhere in the front seven, the Lions have re-signed defensive tackles Pat O'Connor, who had 18 tackles and a sack in 12 games last season, and Myles Adams, who had four tackles and a sack in four games, and linebackers Derrick Barnes, Zeke Turner and Mitch Agude.
Barnes is the only starter of that bunch, landing a three-year, $25.5 million deal.
The Lions have also added cornerback DJ Reed, nose tackle Roy Lopez and linebacker Grant Stuard to fortify a defense that was ravaged by injuries last season but still finished seventh in the NFL in scoring.
