After a season in which GM Brad Holmes was named the NFL's Executive of the Year and Dan Campbell was a finalist for Coach of the Year, the Lions have signed the duo to contract extensions through the 2027 season.
"We are thrilled to have Brad and Dan under contract for the next four seasons,” said Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp. “They have been the driving force behind the rebuild of our football team and the success that we have enjoyed. The continuity they provide for our football program will continue to be the key to our future success on the field.”
Holmes and Campbell took over a team in 2021 coming off three straight last-place seasons, and have rebuilt the Lions into a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Detroit has gone from three wins to nine to 12 and a trip to the NFC championship game with Holmes and Campbell at the helm.
Of the 13 NFL teams with losing records in 2021, the Lions are one of only two that's made successive strides since. The Ravens, from eight wins to 10 to 13, are the other.
Holmes was originally under contract with the Lions through the 2025 season, Campbell through 2026.
The Lions have also agreed to a multi-year extension with special assistant and former star linebacker Chris Spielman, who helped steer the search that led the team to Holmes and Campbell.
“I could not be more proud of the work that Brad, Dan and Chris have done for our organization,” said president Rod Wood. “They have selflessly worked together to build a winning culture within the Lions. I am excited to continue working with them to create the sustained success that we envision for the team, our fans, and the city of Detroit.”
