Lions reportedly fire Aubrey Pleasant as defense gets worse

The Lions' terrible defense has cost a coach his job. Dan Campbell has fired defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant, according to the Free Press.

Pleasant is well-respected in NFL circles and well-liked in the Lions building, but he was in charge of a secondary that's allowed the highest passer rating (108.7) and the most passing yards per attempt (8.4) in the NFL this season.

That secondary hit rock bottom in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins when the Lions allowed Tua Tagovailoa to complete 29 of 36 passes for 369 yards and three touchdowns. Both Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle had over 100 receiving yards.

The 1-6 Lions have allowed the most yards per game and the most points per game in the NFL. The defense belongs to Aaron Glenn, but Campbell believes in his defensive coordinator to get things right.

So Pleasant is the first coach to go, a surprising turn for someone who arrived in Detroit with so much promise a year ago.

The 35-year-old, who spent four seasons as cornerbacks coach for the Rams prior to joining the Lions, is widely considered a rising name in the industry. Now he's out of a job.
