The Lions got back on track Sunday in Chicago. Jared Goff led another dominant performance for the offense in a 34-17 win over the Bears, a week after Detroits' 11-game win streak came to an end in an injury-filled loss to the Bills.
Goff was unfazed throwing in freezing temperatures at Soldier Field. He went 23 of 32 for 336 yards and three touchdowns, including an 82-yard bomb to Jameson Williams to stake the Lions to a 20-0 lead in the second quarter. Williams had a career-high 143 yards on five catches.
Jahmyr Gibbs, in his first game as the Lions' lead running back in the wake of David Montgomery's knee injury, churned out 154 scrimmage yards on a season-high 27 touches. He also teamed up with Goff on a fake stumble-fumble to set up Goff's third touchdown pass, a perfectly lofted ball to Sam LaPorta.
After losing two more starters last week in Alim McNeill and Carlton Davis IIII, Detroit's defense came up with two takeaways on fumbles in the first half and mostly held the Bears in check. Most notably, the Lions limited D'Andre Swift to 20 yards on nine carries, a bounce-back performance after they allowed nearly 200 yards on the ground to the Bills.
Amon-Ra St. Brown caught his career-high 11th touchdown on a screen late in the first half, and later made his 100th catch of the season. He's the second player in franchise history to have three 100-catch seasons, joining Herman Moore.
The win moves the Lions to 13-2 on the season and 5-0 in the NFC North as they close in on the No. 1 seed in the conference and a first-round bye in the playoffs.
