Breathe easy, Lions fans. Everything's going to be fine.
"Immediately, two days ago, my phone’s blowing up," Dan Campbell said Wednesday on 97.1 The Ticket. "I got all these people hitting me up about, 'Man, what happened to Gibbs?! Oh my god, TA! It’s done.' All these reports are out."
Over the course of Monday night's practice, the Lions lost Jahmyr Gibbs to a hamstring injury, Terrion Arnold to a pectoral injury and Ennis Rakestraw to an ankle injury. Their star running back and their top two draft picks, both of whom are gunning for starting jobs on defense. Fortunately, the injuries were not deemed to be serious.
"I think we’re going to be fine here, alright?" Campbell said. "I think we’ll be good."
In other words, Gibbs, Arnold and Rakestraw may miss some practice time, but they should all be ready to go by Week 1. Rakestraw said himself on Tuesday, while hanging with Arnold on Instagram Live, "We are perfectly fine."
Campbell also provided positive updates Wednesday on veteran cornerback Carlton Davis III, who missed practice Monday, and second-year quarterback Hendon Hooker, who entered concussion protocol after the Lions' preseason loss to the Giants last week.
"Carlton is good," Campbell said. "He’s got this hammy he’s dealing with, but he’ll be fine."
Asked if Hooker will be back for Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs, Campbell said, "I think so. I think there’s a good chance. I can’t say absolutely yes, but I think it’s trending the right way."
