The Lions had a first down on the Buccaneers' 17-yard line with 22 seconds to play in the first half Sunday, and came out of the scenario with zero points.
All hell broke loose when Jared Goff threw a pass over the middle to Amon-Ra St. Brown on second down as time was ticking down. Without a timeout, the Lions offense tried to spike the ball to set up a field goal -- but the field goal unit ran onto the field at the same time. That resulted in a flag for too many on the field and a 10-second run-off that ended the half.
“Listen, 100 percent on the head coach there,” Dan Campbell told FOX sideline reporter Laura Okmin as the Lions came back out for the second half. “Totally screwed my team. That is mine. We’re going for the clock, clock it. It’s not a hurricane. And I made a decision that I shouldn’t have made and our team is going to have to overcome it. That’s the bottom line."
The Lions went into the half trailing 13-6, with a lot to clean up on offense.
