The Lions have added another offensive mind to replenish their coaching staff.
Former NFL quarterback Bruce Gradkowski, who spent the past two years as offensive coordinator of the St. Louis BattleHawks in the UFL, is joining the Lions as an offensive assistant, per Adam Schefter.
Gradkowski, 42, should help the Lions make up for the loss of assistant QB's coach J.T. Barrett, who followed former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to the Bears. Wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El also went with Johnson, while tight ends coach Steve Heiden went with Aaron Glenn to the Jets.
Gradkowski played 11 years in the NFL, mostly as a backup for six different teams: the Buccaneers, Rams, Browns, Raiders, Bengals and Steelers. In Detroit, he will work under Lions new offensive coordinator John Morton.
He started his coaching career as a high school assistant in 2017, eventually becoming an offensive analyst for Toledo before his offensive coordinator job in the UFL.
