The Lions have already plucked the Defensive Player of the Year from the Canadian Football League. Is the Defensive Rookie of the Year next?
Detroit is reportedly hosting cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggers for one of its 30 pre-draft visits. Stiggers never played college football after dropping out of school following the death of his father, but jumped into the CFL this season and had five picks for the Toronto Argonauts to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.
He made a name for himself the year prior in the Fan Control Football League where he was a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league with five interceptions.
Stiggers, who turned 22 in January, was not invited to the NFL combine this week in Indianapolis, so a visit to Detroit is a way for the Lions to get to know him better. They do have a need at cornerback.
Earlier this month, the Lions signed reigning CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player Mathieu Betts, a defensive lineman who led the league in sacks this season.
