Jared Goff tends to play it safe with the media. Rarely do his emotions bubble to the surface. But Goff got choked up when asked about Dan Campbell after the Lions beat the Vikings Sunday night to win their second straight division title and clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
On NBC's Sunday Night Football postgame show, host Jac Collinsworth asked Goff about his relationship with Campbell and how "pairing with him has impacted your life."
"He's been incredible. He's, he's -- you're gonna make me emotional," Goff said through a quivering voice. "Sorry. He's been incredible. He's breathed life into me from the moment I got here, and it's been a lot of fun to win with him and to have a guy like that believe not only in me but believe in the whole team. At every point of this journey over the last four years, he's believed in us and it's been fun to play for him."
Left for dead by the Rams when Campbell, Brad Holmes and the Lions brought him to Detroit, Goff just wrapped up the best season of his career. He finished second in the NFL in passer rating (111.8) behind only MVP candidate Lamar Jackson and helped the Lions win 15 games while shattering all kinds of franchise records for offense. They scored the fourth most points in NFL history.
Now they're three wins away from doing something that once seemed impossible.
