The Lions sold out season tickets at Ford Field this season for the first time ever, and you can hear it on game days. Their fans have created one of the loudest environments in the NFL.
"Best home field I’ve played in front of," Jared Goff said Tuesday on 97.1 The Ticket. "I’ve played in some rowdy environments and it stacks right up there with all of them. It’s a whole lot of fun to see them get loud on defense and then they’re very aware when we’re on offense to be quiet. It’s a really, really fun atmosphere to play in front of right now. I know they’re having a fun time and so are we."
The Lions are one of 13 NFL teams averaging at least 100 percent capacity at their home games this year. How far they've come in Goff's three seasons. They ranked 18th in percent capacity last year, and 31st the year before that.
Goff, 29, said this season he feels more passion in Detroit than he ever felt in Los Angeles over his five seasons with the Rams. After Lions fans invaded SoFi Stadium, Goff's former home, in the Lions' win over the Chargers this month, Goff said it was the biggest fanbase "I've ever been a part of as an away team."
"I don’t say this tongue in cheek, I don’t know if it was louder for us or them on third down," he said. "It was at least even. It’s just a testament to our fans and how loyal they are."
Ford Field will be rocking again Thursday for the Lions' Thanksgiving game against the Packers. It will also be the Lions' fourth national TV game this season after they defeated the Chiefs and Packers on the road on Thursday Night Football and the Raiders at home on Monday Night Football.
Goff said he enjoys the Lions' tradition of playing on Thanksgiving, in part because "we're the first game."
"The later game, you gotta miss Thanksgiving dinner, that wouldn’t be fun," he said. "But we’re the first game, so we get to eat later that night and get to play in front of the whole country while everyone’s with their family, enjoying some time. It’s fun."
